Ferronato x Diabetech: A Mission to Raise Awareness for Diabetes Month
This November, Ferronato’s CEO Alessia Ferronato and Justin Eastzer, the Founder of Diabetech, are teaming up to make a difference for Diabetes Awareness Month! Both Alessia and Justin have experienced the life-changing challenges of type 1 diabetes, including the all-too-common struggle with misdiagnosis.
Their goal? To break down misconceptions, raise awareness, and give back to the diabetes community in meaningful ways.
Why This Matters
Alessia’s journey with type 1 diabetes began at age 11 when she was suddenly hit with symptoms like extreme fatigue, intense thirst, and rapid weight loss.
It was winter in Switzerland, and her doctors thought it was just the flu. But after several visits and no improvement, her condition suddenly spiraled—she fell into a diabetic coma. Alessia was rushed by helicopter to the ICU in Geneva, where she remained in a coma for two days. Her parents were given a 50% chance of survival.
In untreated type 1 diabetes, the body can't produce insulin, causing blood sugar to skyrocket. This can lead to severe dehydration, brain swelling, and organ failure. Alessia’s story highlights the critical need for proper diagnosis; her survival became her driving force. Now, through Ferronato, she channels that purpose into creating products that support well-being. Her brand uses Swiss innovation to shield users from EMFs. Today, Alessia carries her commitment to protecting others—both in life and in business.
Justin, who has also faced misdiagnosis, brings his own story and passion to this collaboration, amplifying the message that type 1 diabetes is still widely misunderstood. Justin’s experience mirrors Alessia’s in many ways. After being misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes, Justin turned to TikTok for answers.
Thanks to the support and knowledge of the diabetes community, he was correctly diagnosed with LADA (type 1.5) after encouragement to pursue an autoantibody test.
With his background on Hollywood productions and as a Tech YouTuber, Justin began advocating online through his brand Diabetech. Together, Alessia and Justin are launching an initiative to make sure fewer people are misdiagnosed, to challenge the many misunderstandings about diabetes, and to educate more people on what the condition really involves.
Together, they’re working to educate others and make sure fewer people face the same challenges they did.
Broader Issue: Why So Many Are Misdiagnosed
While many assume diabetes is straightforward to diagnose, the reality is more complex. Type 1 diabetes often goes unrecognized, especially in adults, who are commonly misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes due to symptom overlap.
In fact, around 21-38% of adults with type 1 are initially misdiagnosed with type 2, delaying critical insulin treatment and increasing the risk of severe complications.
Alessia and Justin’s goal in sharing their stories is to prevent others from experiencing the risks of delayed diagnosis. For many, understanding the warning signs can truly save lives.
So, what are the most common symptoms to look out for? Here’s what to remember:
Extreme Thirst – Feeling constantly thirsty, even after drinking water.
Frequent Urination – Going to the bathroom more than usual, especially at night.
Unexplained Weight Loss – Losing weight rapidly, even with normal eating habits.
Extreme Fatigue – Feeling unusually tired or lacking energy.
Blurry Vision – Experiencing sudden changes in vision or blurry eyesight.
Nausea or Vomiting – Feeling sick to the stomach, often a sign that blood sugar levels are too high.
If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, don’t wait—early diagnosis is key. Type 1 diabetes may be life-changing, but with proper diagnosis and treatment, it doesn’t have to be life-threatening.
Ferronato’s Mission and a Commitment to Giving Back
Ferronato is more than a brand; it’s Alessia’s mission to make wellness tangible for others. She created Ferronato to protect people from the hidden impact of technology.
This month, she’s extending that mission to the diabetes community by pledging 10% of global sales from Ferronato’s collection to a diabetes charity, helping those struggling with access to life-saving medicine. Blue has become the color of Diabetes Awareness Month and World Diabetes Day (November 14) because it represents unity in the global fight against diabetes.
The color was chosen by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2007 when they launched the Blue Circle as the global symbol for diabetes awareness.
Blue is a universal color that signifies health and life, and the circle represents unity and strength among individuals, families, and communities affected by diabetes worldwide.
